CLOTHWEIGHT / ABOUT
The House

The house that weighs.

Clothweight exists because a suit should hand you its specification, not ask for your faith.

Every garment in the Clothweight library carries three numbers in public: the fibre content, the weight of the cloth in grams per square metre, and the price broken down line by line. That is the whole idea. Tweed is the most honest cloth in the wardrobe — it was engineered before the word existed — and it deserves to be sold honestly, on specification rather than adjectives.

Most clothing is sold on story. We think a suit sold on story is a suit you cannot check. So we do the opposite. The cloth is named. The weight is measured. The photographs are of the garment we ship, not a render. The batch is numbered, and your unit within that batch is woven into the interior label. When a batch sells through, the cloth retires to the archive and the number is never woven again.

The standard

Every Clothweight garment must meet the same five checks before it is cut. Nothing enters the library unweighed.

Fibre100% pure new wool. Never recycled, never blended with polyester. Certificate on file per batch.
Weight430–500 grams per square metre. The classic suiting band: warm, wind-tight, drapes instead of clinging.
DyeYarn-dyed before weaving. Colour lives in the thread, so it cannot wash flat or fade at the seams.
WeaveHerringbone, houndstooth, nep twill. Named, photographed in macro, and published on every product page.
BatchNumbered and recorded. The label inside your jacket tells you which weaving your cloth came from.

The Crown Line

Alongside the house cloths sits the Crown Line: cloths milled in Italy from lambswool with silk, released in smaller runs. They follow the same rule as everything else here — specified, photographed on the garment, and priced with the bill printed beside them. The first Crown cloth, the Brown-Blue Check jacket, is Cloth No. 004.

The pledge

“If we cannot show you the cloth, the weight, and the cost, we will not ask you for the money.”

That sentence is the working rule. It is why the cost breakdown appears on every product page, why the price does not move for sales or codes, and why each cloth retires instead of lingering. If a cost line changes, the page changes. That is the whole policy.

Where the library is going

We release a small number of cloths per season, and the batch notice goes out to the list before a cloth opens to the public. One email per cloth, never more. The library is small on purpose: it is easier to weigh eleven cloths honestly than a hundred superficially.

Start with Cloth No. 001, the Brown Herringbone three-piece — the cloth the library was built around — or read how we think tweed should be worn.
